Tridev i.e. three gods reside in this universe, Brahma who created the universe, Vishnu who is the sustainer, and Shiva who is the destroyer. And on the foundation of these three gods, this creation is sustained.
In today’s content, Pagalworld is going to tell you about the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, the creator of the universe.
1. Matsya – The Fish Avatar
The first incarnation of Lord Vishnu was Matsya Avatar i.e. the incarnation of a fish. Lord Vishnu took the form of a fish to save Manu from the deluge. After which he took Manu’s boat to a new cycle with plants and every species of animals. Which had gathered in a massive cyclone.
2. Kurma – The Giant Tortoise Avatar
The second incarnation of Lord Vishnu was Kurma Avatar. Lord Vishnu took the form of a huge sea turtle in this incarnation.
When the gods and the demons were churning the ocean to get the nectar, Lord Vishnu took the form of a tortoise to prevent it from drowning. And when the rope was needed, he took the help of Sheshnag for that.
3. Varaha – The Giant Boar Avatar
The third incarnation of Lord Vishnu was in the form of a boar which is called Varaha Avatar. He appeared to defeat Hiranyakashipu.
Hiranyakashipu was a demon who took the earth under the Brahman ocean. It is believed that the battle between Varaha and Hiranyakashipu lasted for 1000 years, which Varaha won in the end.
Varaha brought the earth out of the ocean between his teeth. and restored it to its place in the universe. Which is called in today’s language the Big Bang Theory i.e. that the earth was formed at that time itself.
4. Narasimha – The half-man/half-lion Avatar
The next incarnation of Vishnu was Narasimha Avatar. This is the fourth incarnation of Vishnu. In this incarnation, Lord Vishnu took the form of half man and half lion.
The elder brother of the demon Hiranyakashipu Hiranaksha had a huge and powerful boon from Brahma. Because of this boon, no human or animal can not kill Hiranyakashipu by any weapon, day or night, on earth or stars.
With the body of a man and the head and paws of a lion, Lord Vishnu came from the pillar in the form of Narasimha avatar. After this, he killed Hiranyakashipu with his claws by placing Hiranyakashipu on his thighs in the evening on the threshold of the courtyard of the house.
5. Vamana – The Dwarf Avatar
Vamana Avatar was the fifth incarnation of Vishnu. This incarnation was of a dwarf. With devotion and austerity, the fourth descendant of Hiranyakashipu was sacrificed in defeating Indra, the god of perseverance. And he had taken control over all the three worlds.
When the gods appealed to Vishnu for protection, Lord Vishnu descended in the form of a dwarf Brahmin. During the Yasavamedha Yagya of the king, Vamana went to Bali. Bali promised him to fulfill any of his demands.
Vamana asked for three steps of land to which Bali agreed. After that Vamana made his size huge. And measured the earth in its first phase, heaven in its second phase. Vamana realized that this Vamana was Vishnu avatar.
In honor of Vamana, the king bowed his head in front of him and asked him to put his third step on me. Vamana avatar did the same and thus Bali got the boon of immortality. Then in praise of Bali and his grandfather Prahlad, Vamana made him the ruler of Hades.
6. Parashurama – The Warrior With An Axe Avatar
The 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu was Parashurama Avatar. Parashurama was the son of Jamadagni and Renuka and got the ax after Shiva’s penance.
He is said to be the first Brahman Kshatriya in Hinduism or warrior saint with duties between a Brahman and a Kshatriya. King Kartavirya Arjuna and his army visited Parashurama’s father in his ashram. And the saint was able to feed him with the divine cow Kamadhenu.
That is why the king demanded a cow but Jamadagni refused. The enraged king destroyed the ashram and took the cow along. Then Parashurama killed the king in his palace and destroyed his entire army.
In return, the sons of Kartavirya killed Jamadagni. Parshuram ji took an oath to kill every Kshatriya on earth and filled five districts with their blood. Eventually his grandfather Rishi Rucheka appeared before him and stopped him.
He is a immortal and even today it is believed that he is doing penance on the Mahindragiri mountain.
7. Rama – The Avatar of Morality and Rules
Rama avatar is the seventh incarnation of Vishnu. The prince and king of Ayodhya who is also called Maryada Purushottam. He is a commonly revered avatar in Hinduism and is regarded as an ideal and heroic man.
His story is told in the Hindu scripture Ramayana. His wife Sita was kidnapped by the Lankan demon king Ravana and he went to Lanka and saved Sita by killing the demon king. You all must know this whole story of Ramayana very well.
8. Krishna Avatar
Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. You all must know very well about Krishna Avatar. It is said that religion was established because of him. Shri Krishna is love, playfulness, and the hero of many different legends.
9. Buddha Avatar
The 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu is an incarnation of Lord Buddha. Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, is commonly included in Hinduism as an incarnation of Vishnu.
Sometimes Buddha is depicted as a preacher in Hindu scriptures, then he drives away demons and heretics through the path of Vedic scriptures. But another view praises one of his kind teacher who preached the path of non-violence.
10. Kalki Avatar
The tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Kalki Avatar which he has not taken yet. Kalki is described as the last incarnation of Vishnu. Which means the end of each Kaal Yuga comes in Kali Yuga.
It is said that he will be on a white horse and his sword will shine like a comet. He will appear when only anarchy, evil and oppression prevail. Dharma will disappear and he will end the Satyuga and the Kaal Yuga to restart another cycle of existence.
